How many times have you heard “everything happens for a reason?”
Probably way more than you can handle, right? Because let’s face it – this life can throw some real shit storms our way. There is pain and loss and death and heartbreak and accidents and cancer and divorce weaved all throughout our lives. It’s so hard to believe that all of that pain is for a reason.
But what if we just accept that everything happens. Drop the “for a reason” part. Things happen because they just happen. And when bad things do happen, which they will continually do, what if we were able to drop our resistance to the situation and let things be as they are. Grieve what was lost. Cherish what was. Look for the lessons in every bit of it. I’m not trying to be a toxic positivity pusher. I’m not even advocating for looking at the glass half full instead of half empty. What if we just look at the glass as refillable?
I really struggle with holding on to the past and beating myself up for things I wish I would have done differently. I replay things in my head over and over until I make myself crazy. If only I would have said this, if only I would have just done this other thing instead….and on and on and on. But what good does that do? It creates more suffering in my present moment. Because unless someone knows something I don’t – I can’t travel back in time and change anything. Things happened the way they happened and that’s it. So choosing to accept what is in the current moment and moving forward – that is the key to more peace.
Today I’m going to accept each situation that comes as it is and try not to judge it or resist it. I’m going to try to not beat myself up for the past and I’m going to try not to worry about tomorrow. Things will happen and it doesn’t matter the reason. And I get to choose my response. The response alone is what determines the amount of suffering or joy I allow in my life. I hope you allow more joy in your life today too.
With so much love,
Krysta
